Client Information
The Office of Laboratory Animal Resources (OLAR) located at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) focuses on providing quality breakthroughs in science via animal research. I had the pleasure of designing this wall piece for their 90 ft. tunnel located next to their laboratory. Working together with the office manager and director, we focused on bringing life to the space while staying true to the overall campus' aesthetics.
Design Process
The client came to us with a detailed draft, which was helpful in jumpstarting my research. I then started dissecting the logo and subheading, searching for their corresponding fonts to use and build consistency. After finalizing the typography, I revisited the Caltech design toolkit from previous projects to brainstorm ways to tie in the campus' branding colors.
Visually, I wanted the wave element to not only feel organic, but also taper off when met at the main attraction. In order to let "Culture of Care" stand out more, I opted to forego the enclosure which allowed it to take up more space.
Initially this was a multi-phase project to honor those who have made groundbreaking contributions, but it was scaled down for the time being.
